The Winner's Curse
This did not read like a YA book at all!! I was not in high school mixed up in drama! I was taken to a world that was incredulous! Built in a time that was not dystopian but mid evil! It was a breath of fresh air to stray a little from from the futuristic worlds. The writing was superb! Almost Shakespearean translated, I loved it!
Herran was conquered by the Valorian people. Herrani's were forced into slavery and the Valorian's took everything from them. The Herrani's wanted revenge and the plot started with an auction. A slave was bought by a wealthy Valorian girl and his anger and resentment strengthened his will to overturn the Valorian empire but not before his heart would be stolen by a daughter of the enemy himself. I was immersed in this story drowning in a pool of beautiful words and characters that carried the weight of presence, strong on their backs. Kestrel is a stubborn, foolish girl but I could not help but love her! Although she does not think it, she is braver than her own mind's eye! Arin reminded me of Jason (Arachangel's Shadow) Their maneurisms are very similar. So I immediately loved him as Jason is one of my favorites of Rafael's seven. (If you do not know what I'm talking about, read Nalini Singh's Guild hunter series! Best adult fantasy/sci fi I've read. Click he_re for my review) Arin is strong willed, stubborn in only his beliefs, but yet the softness of his heart bled through his eyes and his hands. I was immediately spelbound by him. I absolutely loved this first installment of this series and I cannot wait to sink into Book 2 , The Winner's Crime. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 |
